Survey Costs

Prepurchase, Condition and Valuation, and Hull Surveys For a comprehensive out-of-the-water survey we charge $12.00 per foot for vessels measuring from forty to sixty-five feet in length. For vessels thirty-nine feet or less, the charge is $10.00 per foot. The minimum charge is $250.00.

Other Types of Surveys and Inspections

Insurance Survey In some cases, an "insurance update" survey is requested by the insurer. The insurance survey may be to re-evaluate the condition and value because of the passage of time or to determine if any equipment, engines, generators, etc. have been added, upgraded, removed, or replaced since the last comprehensive survey. The surveyor also notes the vessel's general housekeeping and calculates the current market value. Some insurers will permit the "update survey" to be done at dockside, saving the cost of a haulout. Insurance surveys are billed at $10.00 per foot for vessels forty to sixty feet in length and $8.00 per foot for boats thirty-nine feet and less. The minimum charge is $200.00.

Damage Surveys $60.00 per hour with a $200.00 minimum.

Corrosion Analysis With the boat in the water, we use an electronic corrosion meter to check the effectiveness of zinc sacrificial anodes, bonding, and the effects that dissimilar metals are having on each other. The vessel must be afloat to effectively analyze the electrical values. An inspection of the vessel hauled out can be useful to visually determine the extent of corrosion damage. Whether the boat is afloat or ashore, a corrosion analysis is charged at $60.00 per hour, with a $200.00 minimum.

Moisture Content or Hull Osmosis Analysis Useful in finding leaks, voids, saturated GRP laminate, and incipient rot, the "moisture meter" is a handy tool for the marine surveyor. Survey Marine uses this device where called for during a normal hull survey (at no extra charge). If gross moisture retention is found, and the client requests a thorough osmosis analysis, additional charges may be incurred depending on the extent of the problem and how detailed of an analysis is required. The hourly rate for moisture content analysis is $60.00 with a $200.00 minimum.

Underwater Survey Diving surveys are not as comprehensive as an out-of-the-water survey but are useful to inspect for damage and defects. We do the diving in house and bill on a case-by-case basis.

Writing The Report Surveymarine reports are not cheap but they are of a high quality. You get your money's worth. We think you will agree that our prices are a bargain after you have seen one of our survey reports.
